Getting Started with SalesToBooks

Everything you need to know to set up SalesToBooks and start syncing your restaurant's daily sales automatically. From signup to first sync.

Welcome to SalesToBooks

SalesToBooks automates your restaurant bookkeeping by syncing daily sales from your POS to your accounting software. No more manual data entry, no more falling behind on your books.

This guide walks you through everything: account setup, connecting your POS, linking your accounting software, mapping categories, and understanding your first sync.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Visit salestobooks.com and click Start Your Free 30-Day Trial. Enter your email and choose a password. No credit card required — you get full access for 30 days.

Step 2: Connect Your POS

After signing in, the onboarding wizard guides you through connecting your POS system. We currently support:

  • Clover — Click Connect, log into your Clover account, and approve access
  • Square — Click Connect, log into Square, and approve access

The connection uses OAuth 2.0 — we never see your password. You're authorizing read-only access to your sales data.

Step 3: Connect Your Accounting Software

Next, connect your accounting platform:

  • QuickBooks Online — Intuit-approved integration, listed on the QuickBooks App Store
  • Xero — Full support with Manual Journal entries
  • FreshBooks — Journal Entry integration

Same OAuth process — click Connect, log in, and approve.

Step 4: Choose Your Sync Start Date

Pick the date you want syncing to start from. Options:

  • Today — Start syncing from today going forward
  • Backfill — Go back up to 90 days to catch up on historical entries

If you're behind on your books, backfilling is a great way to get caught up instantly.

Step 5: Map Your Categories

SalesToBooks pulls your POS categories and your accounting chart of accounts. Map each POS category to the right income account, and each payment type to the right deposit account.

Not sure what goes where? Use AI Suggest for smart mapping recommendations.

Step 6: First Sync

Once connected and mapped, SalesToBooks will run your first sync. If you chose a backfill date, it will process each day in the range. You can watch the progress on your Reports page.

After the initial sync, everything runs automatically every morning. You're done.

What's Next?

  • Check the Reports page daily to see synced entries
  • Verify a few entries in your accounting software to confirm mappings are correct
  • Adjust mappings anytime from the Connections page
