Founder & Developer
Welcome to SalesToBooks
SalesToBooks automates the part of restaurant bookkeeping that nobody wants to do: typing yesterday's sales into your accounting software. Connect your POS and your books once, and the numbers flow automatically every morning.
This guide covers the whole setup — account creation, POS connection, accounting link, category mapping, and your first sync.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Visit salestobooks.com and click Start Your Free 30-Day Trial. Enter your email and choose a password. Full access for 30 days.
Step 2: Connect Your POS
The onboarding wizard walks you through connecting your POS system. We currently support:
- Clover — Log into your Clover account, approve access
Clover uses OAuth 2.0 — we never see your password. You're authorizing read-only access to your sales data. More POS systems (Square, Toast, Lightspeed) are coming soon.
Step 3: Connect Your Accounting Software
Next, connect your accounting platform:
- QuickBooks Online — Intuit-approved, listed on the QuickBooks App Store
- Xero — Full support with Manual Journal entries
- FreshBooks — Journal Entry integration
Same OAuth flow — click Connect, log in, approve.
Step 4: Choose Your Sync Start Date
Pick the date you want syncing to begin:
- Today — Start syncing from today going forward
- Backfill — Go back up to 90 days to catch up on historical entries
If you've fallen behind on your books, the backfill option is the fastest way to get current. SalesToBooks processes each day in the range automatically.
Step 5: Map Your Categories
SalesToBooks pulls your POS categories and your accounting chart of accounts. Map each POS category to the right income account, and each payment type to the right deposit account.
Not sure what goes where? Use AI Suggest for mapping recommendations based on your chart of accounts.
Step 6: First Sync
Once connected and mapped, SalesToBooks kicks off your first sync. If you chose a backfill date, it processes each day in the range. Watch the progress on your Reports page.
After the initial sync, everything runs automatically every morning.
